Enabling Safari Extensions on macOS – Step by step guide with images

0. Important: After completing all the steps and activating the extension, you must completely close and reopen Safari:

  • In some cases, Safari may not recognize the extension immediately, even after it has been installed and activated.
  • If this happens, we strongly recommend completely closing Safari and then reopening it, as this often resolves the issue.
  • On iOS, simply close Safari and open it again.
  • On macOS, right-click the Safari icon and select Quit, instead of using Command + Q, to make sure Safari fully closes.

1. Download and Install Your Desired Safari Extension:

  • Open the App Store and search for the Safari extension you want to install.
  • Click Get and then Install to download the extension.
  • Once the installation is complete, select Open.

2. Open Safari Settings:

  • Open the Safari browser.
  • Click Safari in the top-left corner of your screen and select Settings from the dropdown menu.
  • This will open the Safari Settings window. Click on the Extensions tab at the top of the new window.

3. Activate the Safari Extension:

  • Select the Safari extension from the left panel of the Extensions window (refer to the example highlighted in red in the image below).
  • After selecting the extension, click the Edit Websites button. (You can refer to the picture below for guidance.)

4. Grant Permissions to the Safari Extension:

  • Safari extensions may require special permissions to function properly.
  • To grant permissions, click the button to the right of “For other websites” at the bottom-right corner of the current window. Select Allow. (Refer to the image for guidance.)

5. Start Using the Safari Extension:

  • The Safari extension’s icon should now be visible on the left side of Safari’s search bar.
  • Click the icon to start using the extension. (The extension shown in the images is for reference only; please follow the same steps for the extension you want to use.)
